Chiropractic comes from
the Greek word Chiropraktikos, meaning “treatment
by hand” Chiropractic is a branch of the health
sciences which focuses upon the body’s neuromusculoskeletal
system. A chiropractor is concerned with how your body’s
skeletal and nervous system is functioning. Since your
spine is the key highway for your central nervous systems,
a chiropractor is trained to use a variety of diagnostic
methods to examine and treat your spine and bone structure.
The examination of the spine is to evaluate structure
and function; this is what makes chiropractic different
from other procedures. Your spinal column is a series
of movable bones which begin at the base of your skull
and end in the center of your hips. Thirty one pairs
of spinal nerves extend down the spine from the brain
and exit through a series of openings. Accidents, falls,
stress, tension, overexertion, and countless other factors
can result in a displacement or derangements of the
spinal column, causing irritation to spinal nerve roots.
These irritations are often the causes of malfunctions
in the human body. Chiropractic helps reduce and eliminate
irritations to spinal nerves to help your body operate
more efficiently.
